For a university project on speculative design for a dystopic future, I imagined a world in which we'll not worry anymore about our physical solidity, where we'll accept our bodily morbidity and process it as if it was normal, instead of keeping fighting or preventing it with medical science.

Nowadays the average person spends between 7 and 11 hours per day sitting down and most of us do not keep the right posture when muscles are relaxed, even when it comes to habits that do not necessarily involve seating, such as looking down to our smartphones.

If, by the age of 20, the children of our children will be so much deformed and bent forward that they will not be able to see what is in front of them, they will just wear a stylish pair of glasses that will allow them to do so.

If they will have such a strong articular stiffness not to be able to bend their head back to sip from a cup of tea, they will drink it from an oblique cup, shaped after their pathology but also after their aesthetics. If they will be so weak to be unable to straighten themselves while inhaling a cigarette, at least enough to avoid drowning in a puff of smoke, they will use a curved mouthpiece, as the cinema divas used to do with regular cigarette holders.

Deforming Habits was born as a reaction to the needs and desires of the future generation of banged up youngsters which I envisioned. I wanted to stress the melancholy of this possible scenario, by highlighting the ease with which we can hide the ugliness of our vices behind the attractiveness of simple everyday objects, and by cynically balancing the grace of soft shapes with our everlasting fashion caprices.
